Altrans is a dropside load body system made from aluminium extrusions designed for road transport               operators, Produced and distributed by Almin Metal Industries from their plant in Harare, altrans provides a      reliable, flexible and easy to assemble alternative to more conventional steel options.                                       

Ease of assembly

Altrans load body systems are designed to ensure minimal delays in getting your vehicle on the road. To this end the altrans system can be fitted within a day.

Assembly time is 4 hours for two people for standard size kits.

The altrans range

Altrans bodies come in a range of prefabricated sizes. Other sizes can be provided to customer order within the specifications of the design and legal requirements.

The advantages of aluminium

An aluminium truck body is lighter than steel, and the use of aluminium extrusions provides structural superiority.

  • The aluminium body is durable and corro­sion resistant,
  • The lighter body allows for heavier pay-loads, and reduced fuel consumption when empty.
  • At the end of its life an altrans body can be recycled through Almin Metal Industries, thus proving that altrans is the lowest life cycle cost solution for fleet operators

  • Flexible design and size
Altrans load bodies can be supplied up to a width of 2,6 metres and can be fitted to any haulage vehicle to suit load requirements from 1 tonne upwards. There is no limit to how long, within legislative limits, an altrans body can be.
 
Dropside height and load capacity

The standard dropside height is 400mm. However, this can vary according to customer specifications. The altrans load body floor structure provides two options depending on customer requirements, the S440 and S441 floor beam.

Altrans is intended for application in the over 1 tonne range of trucks and trailers. The design of the altrans load body system borrows extensively from existing and earlier European and American truck body systems. Critical design parameters are Weight, Strengthens Assembly Time. Cost is automatically addressed by cutting both and assembly time to a minimum.

Conceptually, altrans does away with the need for a sub-frame on which to lay floor planks lengthwise. Instead, we make use of transverse floor beams, which connect directly to two longititudinal chassis sections. Besides minimizing the number of components, this has the added advantage of saving space vertically. Depending on configuration altrans is roughly 10-15% light ' comparable systems elsewhere. A4250X2200mm load body with 400rnm dropsides typically weighs 280kg.

Current dropsides are 25mm thick and based on modules of 125mm. Standard dropside height is  400mm (inside). However, 525mm, 650mm, 775mm and 900mm high dropsides: available. Dropsides are mounted on ATH! hinges based on 12mm round. The system can in principle accommodate drop panels up to 40mm thick.
